Give a useful professional contact enough truth to help.

Rehearsal protocol

Practice under mild friction, not only while reading. Silence after the final sentence is not failure.

Boundary ladder

Use the smallest response that protects the boundary. Repeat it rather than inventing a stronger defense.

Answer“The role ended this month, and I am focusing on finance leadership positions.”

Narrow“I can talk about what I want next. I am not discussing the separation terms.”

Redirect“That is all I am sharing for now. How did your launch go?”

End“I am going to step away. It was good to see you.”

When the audience changes

Name the change before expanding: “That sounds relevant to my search. Can I give you the thirty-second professional version?” or “I appreciate the offer to listen. Do you have room for the close-friend version?” When in doubt, stay narrow and ask permission.

Partner or household, children, LinkedIn, and broader-public material are sidebars. They don't create a fourth version of the story.

Monday Move
